GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Built on an artificial terrace on the left bank of the River, and surrounded by woods, this unique chateau offers magnificent views from the terraces stretches into the distance on the surrounding countryside. The main gateway, comes into sight driving upwards along a village street. The driveway then goes up to reach the chateau; dominating its surrounding area. The building of the first Donjon dates back to the 12th century. The double donjon was protected by ditches and towers serving as bastions, connected by ramparts and alternated with square towers were the walls still hum with the murmurs of French history. During its first 3 centuries the chateau was only a defensive unit, in the 16th century large windows are made on the south facade, 

The Renaissance wing was then added and underwent numerous transformations and is lined with a residential tower on its western part. It was enhanced and extended again in the 20th century; the majestic facade embodies the elegance and prestige of the great Royal homes.

The estate covers 61.31 hectares (153 acres) in total, consisting woodland, meadows, and beautiful remarkable gardens.  The current owners hired a landscape designer at the time. The upper garden is very English, on the site of the former vegetable garden. The middle garden, north of the stables, is inspired by the Middle Ages, it is made up of 11 rectangles of common boxwood in which roses are planted. The garden plot next to the chateau includes a swimming pool beautifully integrated in the landscaped garden.

Wooded parklands and meadows take up the plots on the north and west sides of the chateau.

The chateau have been listed as a French Historic Monument since 1923, bearing witness to the architectural and historical quality of the property. The Château has since been gradually embellished and restored, reflecting the attachment of its owners and the contribution of the Ministry of Culture. 

This magnificent chateau offers over 2000 sqm of living space, superb reception rooms and 24 bedrooms and suites. The estate includes a caretaker's house, a housekeeper's house, stables riding ring and other outbuildings (800 m²). 

In the last 50 years this beautiful chateau has been completely renovated: modern-day home comforts which have been harmoniously incorporated with the original decor as stone spiral stairways, ceiling beams, original stone fireplaces and versailles parquet flooring.
